This is the simplest of our easy kid recipes - it does not involve any cooking so it is perfectly safe for the little ones to prepare.
Your assistance, however is required, to freeze the fruit juice and to take it out of the freezer before it hardens into ice.
Cool Tri Color Fruit Salad
Decant a can of pineapple juice into a flat wide container so that it freezes quickly and evenly. This will take a couple of hours
Take it out of the freezer when it has frozen ice crystals but before it hardens into ice.
Using a fork, the children, can mush up/break up the juice ice crystals. Decant the "mushed up" icy juice crystals into individual dessert bowls
Have 3 soft fruit available for the children to cut up. I use watermelon for it's red color, rock melon for the orange color and canned pineapple pieces for the yellow color
The children can cut up the fruit into smaller pieces using a butter knife, so that there are three bowls of red, orange and yellow fruit
Top the icy mushed fruit juice with the three colors of fruit
Enjoy immediately!
Even fairly young children can manage this simplest of easy kid recipes as long as you're happy for them to use a butter knife. They'll enjoy the process of breaking up the frozen icy fruit juice and will have great fun cutting up the soft melons and creating a colorful, tasty, fruit salad.
Here's a variation to our Cool Tri Color Fruit Salad. Cool Patriotic Fruit Salad
Use the same process with freezing pineapple juice till it becomes icy crystals but not frozen hard.
Select fruit the colors of your country's flag or your child's school uniform colors.
- Red - Watermelon, Strawberries
- White - Lychees, peeled apple
- Blue - Blueberries
- Yellow - Apricots, Pineapple
- Green - Kiwi Fruit or Green Melon
For older children, if they are ambitious, they could place fruit in place to shape their country's flag. This would be the serving plate for the fruit.
Have a separate bowl for the broken up icy frozen juice and the children could serve themselves.
